Well-Rested Employees
Daylight saving time is just around the corner: on the night of 30 to 31 March, the clocks will go forward by one hour. Setting the clock forward and back again has been a topic of discussion in Europe for years, partly because of the health effects it has. Even if it is only by an hour, this shift in time has a considerable effect on your biorhythm. Your body needs to get used to this and you may therefore have difficulty falling asleep or –vice versa– wake up too early, resulting in sleep deprivation. This in turn has an effect on other things, such as your ability to concentrate. As you can see, there are plenty of reasons to draw your employees’ attention to this!
What can you do for your employees?
Good sleep quality is very important. Not only does this affect your physical health, it also affects your mental health and your productivity. Fortunately, there are easy ways to promote good sleep quality and to get back to the right rhythm quickly. So why not share our sleep-inducing tips with your employees:
- Keep to the same wake-sleep rhythm as much as possible and do not deviate more than two hours from this on your days off.
- Eat at regular times. This helps to adjust your biological clock.
- Take regular exercise. Physical fatigue helps you fall asleep in the evening.
- Follow the same sleep ritual as much as possible before you go to bed. Sleep works with associations, so you associate the actions of your ritual with sleep.
- Ensure a good sleeping environment: black-out curtains, a cool room temperature and a comfortable bed. Earplugs and a sleep mask can also help.
Extra sleep assistance for your employees
Some people have difficulty sleeping all year round. This can have several causes. Since sleep directly affects health and productivity, it makes sense to provide employees with insight into their sleep behaviour and to help them sleep better where possible. Health insurer Zorg en Zekerheid offers assistance in the form of online self-help modules and tailored workshops, so that everyone in your organisation can get to work well-rested all year round.
Adjusting sleep behaviour
With Zorg en Zekerheid, your employees can work on adjusting their sleep behaviour independently and online. The mirro e-Health module ‘Sleep tight!’ teaches them to improve their sleep behaviour by means of practical tips, exercises and the exchange of experiences. They also get direct access to many other self-help modules for mental fitness, which address such topics as work-related stress, informal care and money worries.
Getting a good night’s sleep
Everyone benefits from a good night’s sleep, so it makes sense to actively raise awareness within your organisation with an in-house workshop. Together with our specialist partners, we look at what suits the needs of your employees and provide tailored advice.
