Remembrance Concert

On May 4, 2025, Voorschoten commemorates the victims of wars. As in previous years, there will be a gathering in the Dorpskerk after the official commemoration at the war memorial. This year, Sinfonietta Voorschoten, the Protestant Municipality of Voorschoten and poets from Poëzie Voorschoten will provide a beautiful program, alternating poems and music.

Sinfonietta Voorschoten, led by its conductor Aikaterini Sampakou, will play the following pieces:

Grieg - 2 movements from Peer Gynt suites: Solvejg's song and Ases death
Mozart - Lacrimosa (wind instruments)
Elgar - Nimrod
Beethoven - Allegretto (2nd movement) from the 7th symphony
Brahms - Poco Allegretto (3rd movement) from the 3rd symphony
John Williams - Theme from “Schindler's list.

Poetry will be provided by poets Cobi Nieuwstad and Ine Duijnkerke on behalf of Poëzie Voorschoten, who use their own work to express events from World War II and the quest for peace and freedom. In addition, Nelleke Slootweg will recite two poems, on behalf of the Dorpskerk.
