Repair Café Leiderdorp

Get your broken tools repaired, clothes fixed and more instead of throwing them away at the monthly repair café!

What do you do with a toaster that no longer works? With a bicycle with a crooked tire? Or with a sweater that has moth holes in it? Throw it away? No way! Repair Café Leiderdorp is organizing a Repair Café again on the first Friday of every month. For the first time in the Environmental Education Center (MEC) in the Sterrentuin.
Between 13:30 and 16:00, various volunteer repairers will be ready to help with all possible repairs free of charge. The last repair will be accepted at 15:30.

Bring all your broken items from home. Toasters, lamps, hairdryers, clothing, bicycles, toys, crockery... anything that no longer works is welcome. And has a chance of being successfully repaired. The repairers at the Repair Café almost always know what to do.

Reduce the waste mountain

By having your items repaired, you contribute to reducing the waste mountain. This is urgently needed, says neighborhood coach Robert van Egmond. “In the Netherlands, we throw away an awful lot, even things that have almost nothing wrong with them, and that can be used again after a simple repair. Many people no longer have a system for repairing things.

Great contacts

The Repair Café also brings local residents into contact with each other. You discover that there is a great deal of knowledge and practical skills in the neighbourhood. Robert van Egmond: “If you have repaired a bicycle, a CD player or a pair of trousers together with a previously unknown neighbour, you look at that person differently the next time you meet him or her on the street. Repairing things together can lead to very nice contacts in the neighbourhood.”

Volunteers and tools

Several volunteers are already involved in the Repair Café. If you would also like to help someone else with two right hands, please register via leiderdorp@incluzio.nl or come along sometime.

The volunteers are also supported by the Environmental Education Center (MEC) and Incluzio Leiderdorp.
