The morning of October 3rd traditionally begins with the Reveille, an event that you absolutely cannot miss. The Reveille is an early morning gathering where the day is festively ushered in with music and song.
At 7:00 sharp, the trumpet call of the Reveille sounds from the City Hall tower: the starting signal for the celebration of Leiden's Relief! After the trumpet sound, we sing a number of well-known songs together to start the day festively. The singers are supported by the inspiring leadership of the ladies of Rood-Wit, who ensure a great musical experience.
After the singing we will make the traditional 'ommegang', a procession through the Haarlemmerstraat, via the Prinsessekade and the Breestraat, back to the City Hall.
After the Reveille, most people rush to the Van der Werfpark for the Koraalzang , another indispensable part of the October 3 celebrations. This moment officially marks the beginning of the festivities of Leidens Ontzet and is a wonderful opportunity to experience the day together.
