Death re-enlightened: The existential role of mortality in art and science
Symposium organized in honor of the retirement of the curator/conservator of Anatomical Museum LUMC
The symposium re-enlightens the existential and unifying role of death in art and science. Particular attention will be paid to Vanitas and its relationship with science being revealed in the art of dissection and conservation, which allowed the extensive growth of scientific collections initially presented in so-called cabinets of curiosities. During the symposium specialists from various disciplines will reflect on how this relationship with our mortality has further evolved.
