What is eIDAS?

If you need to provide proof of identification in a foreign country, you are usually required to produce a physical form of identification such as a passport. Digital forms of identification (such as the DigiD) tend to only work within the countries who issue them. However, within the EEA, the eIDAS regulation is allowing citizens to use their own national eID in other EEA countries to access public services online. This means, for instance, that someone with a Dutch DigiD can still access public services online in other EEA countries, and vice versa. 

The Municipalities of Voorschoten, Wassenaar, and Zoeterwoude offer their non-Dutch speaking European citizens services and e-forms in the English language with their eID. This assists with addressing the challenge of cross-border recognition of nationally issued eIDs, enabling Europeans to access online public services across Europe seamlessly.
