The Municipality of Leiden is working on a policy regarding short-stay housing, and they want to do it together with Leiden’s companies.
Short-stay housing can be an important step in the recruitment and onboarding process of international knowledge workers. Temporary housing facilities can be used by the international while they search for more long-term rental or buying options and are also crucial for temporary employees.
What qualifies as short-stay housing?
Short-stay housing is not a well-defined concept yet in Leiden, which arises many questions. What duration is considered short-stay, and when is it long-stay? What kind of living spaces can qualify as short-stay facilities? Do short-stay residents pay tourist tax or are they considered renters?
Upcoming policy
Luckily, The Leiden Municipality is working on a policy that will answer all these questions, but they don’t want to do this alone. This policy will have direct impact on international employees – and the companies they work for. Therefore, Leiden Municipality is asking employers for their input.
Survey
A survey has been developed to learn more about the needs that companies who hire internationals have for temporary housing. With the results from the survey research agency Sweco will clarify how many people want to make use of short-stay housing, and if there are sufficient spaces available. The results will also define what conditions successful short-stay facilities must meet.
