Leiden University Ranked Among Top Universities in the World

According to the Times Higher Education's recent World University Rankings 2022, which includes more than 1,600 universities worldwide, Leiden University is ranked as number 71. The Netherlands has long been renowned for its quality of education, with 2022 consolidating this reputation as a total of 7 Dutch universities have been placed in the top 100 of the World University Rankings 2022.

Leiden University is the oldest higher education institution in the Netherlands, having been founded in 1575. Nowadays, with campuses in both The Hague and Leiden, the university has almost 35,000 students and it has many notable alumni, ranging from René Descartes and Rembrandt van Rijn to the Dutch King Willem-Alexander and the Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte. Additionally, several Leiden University alumni have gone on to win Nobel Prizes in fields as physics and economics.

Many of the university's undergraduate and graduate programmes are taught in English, resulting in an international and diverse community of both students and researchers. This international atmosphere can also been seen in their collaboration with other higher education institutions worldwide, with Leiden University operating many exchange programmes that allow students to experience studying in other countries and culture.
