Proof of sponsorship or shelter is often required if you are visited by someone from abroad. You must then guarantee any costs or debts incurred by the visitor in the Netherlands. Or you must report that this person is staying with you. This is necessary for a visa.
The requirements for a visa differ per country, but these 2 conditions almost always apply:
- The visitor must have a destination. This can be a hotel reservation or an invitation from someone in the Netherlands who offers a place to sleep.
- The visitor must have sufficient money, a minimum of €55 per day. If the visitor does not have this himself, someone in the Netherlands must act as guarantor.
In both cases you will need proof of sponsorship or shelter. Look for the conditions per country on the website of the IND. The municipality only legalises the signature of the person who guarantees or offers shelter. For substantive questions, you can contact the IND.
